Pattern for crocheting Nikki Monkey by Hardicraft. Nikki is approximately 22 cm tall and is made with a 2.5 mm crochet hook.

  1. 1. Head

    Part 1: Ch 2 with cream white or start with a magic ring.

    1. 6 sc in the 1st ch or in the magic ring, 1 sl in the 1st sc (= 6)

    2. 2 sc in each sc (= 12)

    3. 6 x (1 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc) (= 18)

    4. 6 x (2 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc) (= 24)

    5. 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc, 5 x (3 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc), 2 sc (= 30)

    6. 6 x (4 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc) (= 36)

    7. 2 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc, 5 x (5 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc), 3 sc (= 42)

    8. to 13. 1 sc in each sc (= 42)

    14. 10 sc, crochet only in the front loops, 7 x (2 sc in 1 sc, 2 sc), 2 sc in 1 sc, crochet through both loops 10 sc (= 50) 

    Mark the 3rd and 6th increase with a stitch marker.

    Place the safety eyes between rounds 12 and 13 above the 3rd and 6th increase of round 14.

    Fasten off and leave a very long thread to attach part 2 to part 1 of the head.

    Place part 2 over part 1 of the head, ensuring that the 2 dc of round 16 are centred between the eyes. Sew part 2 to part 1.

  2. 2. Ears (crochet 2 x)

    Part 1: Ch 2 with cream white or start with a magic ring.

    1. 3 sc in the 1st ch or in the magic ring, 1 sl in the 1st sc (= 3)

    2. 1 turning-ch, 2 sc in each sc (= 6)

    3. 1 turning-ch, 3 x (1 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc) (= 9)

    4. 1 turning-ch, 3 x (2 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc) (= 12)

    Fasten off and weave in the ends.

    Part 2: Ch 2 with light brown or start with a magic ring.

    1. 3 sc in the 1st ch or in the magic ring, 1 sl in the 1st sc (= 3)

    2. 1 turning-ch, 2 sc in each sc (= 6)

    3. 1 turning-ch, 3 x (1 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc) (= 9)

    4. 1 turning-ch, 3 x (2 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc) (= 12)

    5. Place both parts with the backs against each other and continue crocheting through both parts, 1 turning-ch, 1 sc in each sc (= 12)

    6. 1 turning-ch, 1 sc in each sc (= 12)

    Fasten off and leave a long thread to attach the ears to the head.

    Sew the ears onto the light brown part on the side of the head. The top of the ear should be level with the top of the eye.

  3. 3. Shaping the Head - Eyes

    Thread a long cream-white yarn onto a needle. Insert the needle at point A at the bottom of the head, press the head together slightly and let it come out again at point B. Insert at point C and let the needle come out again at point D. Finally, insert at point E, press the head together slightly again and let the needle come out again at point A. Ensure that the thread running along the top from B to C and from D to E sits behind the eye at the bottom. Now pull the threads until the desired shape is achieved and tie the threads securely.

    Embroider the nose and mouth with light brown (see photo).

  4. 4. Body

    Ch 2 with yellow or start with a magic ring.

    1. 6 sc in the 1st ch or in the magic ring, 1 sl in the 1st sc (= 6)

    2. 2 sc in each sc (= 12)

    3. 6 x (1 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc) (= 18)

    4. 6 x (2 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc) (= 24)

    5. 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc, 5 x (3 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc), 2 sc (= 30)

    6. 6 x (4 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc) (= 36)

    7. 2 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc, 5 x (5 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc), 3 sc (= 42)

    8. to 13. 1 sc in each sc (= 42)

    14. Crochet in the front loops, 1 sc in each sc (= 42)

    Continue with light brown.

    15. Crochet in the back loops of round 13, 1 sc in each sc (= 42)

    16. and 17. 1 sc in each sc (= 42)

    18. 3 x (12 sc, sc 2 st together) (= 39)

    19. 5 sc, sc 2 st together 2 x (11 sc, sc 2 st together), 6 sc (= 36)

    20. 6 x (4 sc, sc 2 st together) (= 30)

    21. to 24. 1 sc in each sc (= 30)

    25. 1 sc, sc 2 st together, 5 x (3 sc, sc 2 st together), 2 sc (= 24)

    26. 1 sc in each sc (= 24)

    Fasten off and leave a long thread. Sew the body to the head.

    Attach a new yellow thread in the 17th sc of round 14.

    Then crochet 8 sc, 1 turning-ch, repeat this 6 more times.

    Attach a yellow thread at the corners and ch 20, (do this on both sides) cross the straps on the back and sew to the edge of the shorts.

  5. 5. Skirt

    Attach a new yellow thread in the last front loop of round 13, keeping the legs away from you.

    1. 1 sc in each sc, 1 sc in the last loop of round 13 (= 43)

    2. 3 ch (= 1st dc), 2 dc, 10 x (2 dc in 1 sc, 3 dc) (= 53)

    3. 1 ch, 1 sc in each dc (= 53)

    4. 3 ch (= 1st dc), 1 dc in each sc (= 53)

    5. 1 ch, 1 sc in each dc (= 53)

    6. 4 ch, skip 2 sc, 1 sl, 17 x (3 ch, skip 2 sc, 1 sl) (= 73)

    Fasten off and weave in the ends.

  6. 6. Arms (crochet 2 x)

    Ch 2 with cream white or start with a magic ring.

    1. 6 sc in the 1st ch or in the magic ring, 1 sl in the 1st sc (= 6)

    2. 2 sc in each sc (= 12)

    3. to 5. 1 sc in each sc (= 12)

    6. 6 sc, sc 3 st together in 1 sc, 5 sc (= 12)

    7. 1 sc in each sc (= 12)

    8. 3 x (2 sc, sc 2 st together) (= 9)

    Stuff the hand.

    Continue with light brown.

    9. to 23. 1 sc in each sc (= 9)

    Stuff the arm halfway.

    24. Fold the top in half and close with 4 sc.

    Fasten off and leave a long thread to attach the arm to the body. Sew the arms between rounds 25 and 26 of the body.

  7. 7. Feet (crochet 2 x)

    Ch 2 with cream white or start with a magic ring.

    1. 6 sc in the 1st ch or in the magic ring, 1 sl in the 1st sc (= 6)

    2. 2 x (2 sc, 3 sc in 1 sc) (= 10)

    3. 2 x (4 sc, 3 sc in 1 sc) (= 14)

    4. 2 x (6 sc, 3 sc in 1 sc) (= 18)

    5. to 8. 1 sc in each sc (= 18)

    9. 8 sc, sc 5 st together in 1 sc, 9 sc (= 18)

    10. 1 sc in each sc (= 18)

    11. 3 x (4 sc, sc 2 st together) (= 15)

    12. 1 sc, sc 2 st together, 2 x (3 sc, sc 2 st together), 2 sc (= 12)

    13. 3 x (2 sc, sc 2 st together) (= 9)

    Stuff the foot.

    14. 3 x (1 sc, sc 2 st together) (= 6)

    Fasten off. Pull the thread through the remaining 6 stitches and tighten. Weave in the end.

  8. 8. Legs (crochet 2 x)

    Ensure that the toes point inward on both legs (see photo).

    1. With light brown, crochet a circle of 12 sc on the back part of the foot, starting at the heel.

    2. to 8. 1 sc in each sc (= 12)

    9. 2 x (5 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc) (= 14)

    10. and 11. 1 sc in each sc (= 14)

    Stuff the leg two-thirds full.

    12. Fold the top in half and close with 7 sc.

    Fasten off and leave a long thread to attach the legs to the body.

    Sew the legs to the bottom of the body.

  9. 9. Tail

    Ch 2 with cream white or start with a magic ring.

    1. 6 sc in the 1st ch or in the magic ring, 1 sl in the 1st sc (= 6)

    2. to 8. 1 sc in each sc (= 6)

    Continue with light brown.

    9. to 31. 1 sc in each sc (= 6)

    32. 2 x (2 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc) (= 8)

    33. and 34. 1 sc in each sc (= 8)

    Fasten off and leave a long thread to attach the tail to the body.

    Sew the tail between rounds 7 and 8 of the body.

  10. 10. Bows (crochet both parts 2 x)

    Part 1: Ch 2 with cream white or start with a magic ring.

    1. 2 x (ch 4, 3 tc, ch 4, 1 sl in the magic ring). Weave in the ends.

    Part 2: Ch 2 with yellow or start with a magic ring.

    1. 2 x (ch 3, 3 dc, ch 3, 1 sl in the magic ring). Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Place the cream white bow under the yellow one and wrap the yellow thread around the middle of both bows several times. Secure the thread at the back.

    Sew one bow onto the brown part of the head, just above the left ear. Sew the other bow at the centre front of the dress, on the edge of the skirt.
